Death mask of King Tutankhamen from the Valley of the Kings

Gold and lapis lazuli death mask of Tutankhamen
The death masks of Egyptian royalty were truly luxurious, made from solid gold with inlay of lapis lazuli, turquoise, and carnelian. Egyptians believed the gods had skin made of gold and hair of lapis lazuli, a brilliant semi-precious stone that gives Egyptian blue its distinct hue. Tutankhamen is the biologicial son of king Akhenaten and his sister. As a result of continuous royal inbreeding, he was born with many physical deformities and health issues. He died young, and unexpectedly.
