The Pyramids of Giza

Giza Pyramid of Khafre
Made from large limestone blocks, the pyramids of Giza represent a shift in how tombs were made in Egypt. The new shape may have been influenced by the growing cult of Ra, whose emblem was a pyramidal stone known as the ben-ben, a mound of earth that emerges from the water in the Egyptian creation myth. In future dynasties, kings would forgo the flashy pyramid shape in favor of hidden, lowkey tombs to attempt to combat raiders.
